… I would not have spent my three-day weekend working on remodeling my kitchen.
Mr. Husband and I have been planning to gut the kitchen and install new cabinets, tile floors and pretty countertops for some time now. unfortunately life or more pressing home repairs always seem to get in the way.
When Dr. Hope told me I had to take a month off I knew that this was the time to get started. Ripping out nasty old cabinetry seemed like such a good way to relieve negative aggression and meticulously sanding, patching and painting the walls seemed like a great way to turn off my baby brain.
So this weekend we started. Together we pulled out the super old and grody* upper cabinets**. While Mr. Husband ran new electrical, I repaired the damaged walls. Today while Mr. Husband worked on his dissertation, I painted the ceiling and walls while singing loudly to Andrew Bird, Asylum Street Spankers and Apples in Stereo***. It was a deliciously productive weekend that kept me so busy my mind had very little time to drift to my desire for a baby.
I’m pleased to report that kitchen progress is moving along quite nicely. Like any DIY, though, it is far from complete meaning I have lots more weekends of remodeling distraction.
* Spellcheck says this word does not exist. My 5-year old self begs to differ.
** We are doing this remodel in three phases. PHASE ONE involves removing all the upper cabinets, running new wiring, repairing and painting the walls and installing the upper cabinets and a wall-mount microwave. PHASE TWO will be replacing the lower cabinets, dealing with the wonky sink pipes and installing new countertops. PHASE THREE is laying the tile. This is the part we are dreading. Maybe I’ll be pregnant by then and we will have to hire that step out… I can dream!
*** I choose my music alphabetically. Seriously.
