A Christmas ornament

12/20/2011

Belle

Our ornament for 2011.

I finally ordered our 2011 ornament. It may not arrive in time for Christmas, but it will be here for next year. After much debating, I chose a pomegranate symbolizing prosperity and fertility. Prosperity for Mr. Husband’s hard work towards his Ph.D. and fertility for our quest to have a child.

I also like how it sort of resembles my cysty ovaries! 🙂

Do you all purchase a special ornament each year? If so, what did you choose to represent 2011?

How cool! My mom loves to buy me an ornament every year, but I happily declined to receive one this year when she said she couldn’t find a good one. I keep hoping that maybe NEXT year we can get a “baby’s first Christmas or something like that.

Even if your ornament doesn’t arrive in time for Christmas, maybe you should still hang it up somewhere for good luck!

I love pomegranate imagery! It’s funny how it represents fertility while at the same time looks like cysty ovaries.

Lovely choice! May 2012 bring you lots of prosperity and fertility!

That is perfect! I just wrote last night about how we couldn’t pick one out this year. Too funny 🙂 If we lived in the same state, we could’ve gone fertility ornament shopping together.

So pretty! I love the double-meaning of fertility and prosperity. I haven’t thought about a fertility ornament. What a great idea!

This was a very good ornament choice for you! We did choose a special one this year, it’s a blown glass sea turtle. We went to Mexico for Thanksgiving and I was literally brought to tears when we happened upon a clutch of baby sea turtles going out to sea for the first time. When I got home, I learned that sea turtles are symbols of motherhood and fertility.

What a fantastic ornament! I was just reading up on symbolism in one of my art history classes and the pomegranate was brought up. I might have to go find me one of those!

I think I might find a way to keep it out all year for us as inspiration! Have to find a way to keep it safe from the cats, though… 🙂

What a fun ornament! And I love what it symbolizes. I get several ornaments every Christmas. I have quite the collection going and I love it :).

Here from ICLW, I am #85.

Love the double meaning! I still need to find an ornament (or 2) for Miss A (& our family)! Stopping by from ICLW #83!

ICLW — I buy at least one peacock and one owl each year. If I see cool pomegrantes, I’ll get those too. And then the normal slew of ones that I just “HAVE” to have…

    That is really beautiful!

My Hubby picked out and ornament in disney that has wall-e and eve tangled up in Christmas lights. It is really cute.

I didn’t get an ornament this year but I love the symbolism of your ornament. I wish you and your husband all the best in the coming year.
