Thankful Thursday

01/20/2012

Belle

My awesome brother and I dancing at my wedding.

Robin has been doing this for seven weeks now and each week I read her list and think, “Gosh, I should really do this. What a great way to reflect…” And then I don’t do it.

I have a lot of Thursdays between now and my FET. Taking time one day of each week to reflect on something positive can only do me good. So here we go.

I’m thankful for:

1. My brother. Who is now healthy and back to work and adventuring. Over the holidays I casually mentioned our upcoming IVF and alluded to our struggles with infertility. My brother was the last person on earth I expected to be supportive of our choice to pursue IVF (for political reasons I won’t delve into here). Instead, a week after I went back to KY he sent an email saying he had been researching IVF to learn more about what I was going through. He told me he learned that acupuncture can greatly improve the odds of it “working” and while he was sure I already knew this, he wanted to share anyways. The email made me cry – even if he would not do this himself, he still loves and supports me. And that makes so much difference.

2. My cat. Despite the fact that she is soooo high maintenance and barfed on my clean quilt this morning, she is absolutely the best feline companion an infertile girl could ask for.

3. My wok. I know, trite, right? I love cooking and my new wok makes it even more enjoyable. This evening I deglazed the pan with a little white wine while making smoked tofu piccatta and the way the cool wine sizzled when it hit the black metal made me smile with joy. I may not be able to create an embryo, but by God, I sure can create an amazing meal.

I encourage you all to join in on Thankful Thursday. Leave me a comment sharing something you are thankful for, or create your own post and leave a link back to it in my comments. What are you thankful for this week?

I am thankful for my cousin, Sarah! She is someone I admire because she follows her dreams, takes fabulous pictures, makes amazing crafty things, writes with honesty and humor AND hosted the best wedding I have ever been to in my life! And, I can go on and on..but those are just some of the many attributes this person has that make me say “What a cool cat I am related to..and I am thankful!” (see…another reason to not fear our genes…they created YOU!)

That’s great to hear about your brother!

I’d rather have cat barf on my quilt than find it with my bare feet in the middle of the night, which is how our cats like it. Yuck!

And a good wok deserves appreciation!

Yay! Glad you’re doing it! It is sometimes hard to come up with the full list. I try to do 5 a week and sometimes I feel like I’m really stretching.

What a great message from your brother. Sometimes people’s views change when they have a personal connection to an issue. 🙂

How sweet of your brother to actually look things up and let you know. I’m glad you found a great support in him, that must mean a lot. Oh and I love that picture, you look so happy! I really hope this IVF will work for you.

I’m thankful for the support I have from family and close friends that have followed our struggles to get here. I’m also thankful for the modern medicine that can make this happen.
