Advice needed (warning, I’m whiney)

02/12/2012

Belle

So… question for readers who have had and IVF with a particularly large number of eggs harvested –

How long until you felt better?

I’m absolutely  miserable. My belly is so swollen even wearing yoga pants is pushing it. My entire torso aches, not just the lady part area. Up under my ribs hurts so bad I can’t draw a full breath. And I get occasional shooting pains in my va-jay-jay. To put it mildly, I am miserable.

The pain medicine they prescribed makes me hella barfy and itch like a junkie. I was up most of last night scratching.

Does this sound familiar?

The doctor was so sure that I would bounce right back since we triggered with Lupron. He said it was impossible to get OHSS with a Lupron trigger, but, I’m feeling mighty full of fluid right now. Advice needed before I drive myself mad and start asking Dr. Google, which I know is a bad move on Sunday night when you really can’t do anything other than visit the ER.

Have you been weighing yourself? The nurses told me to call if I gained 2lbs/day for 2 days in a row. If you’re in doubt, you might try calling your clinic’s doctor on call or the hospital to see what they say. Difficulty breathing sounds like a bad sign though. I hope you feel better soon!

I’m not a huge harvester (17) but one of my friends is. You sound overstimulated, but you can also get that without the full ohss. My whole abdomen always hurt. No way I could wear pants of any kind. Ever. For weeks. The rib thing & breathlessness is worrying. PLEASE drink loads and loads and loads of water. I mean A LOT. And just keep on ringing the clinic if you’re worried. I was always better by day 3 after surgery day, but still sore. (My friend was maybe 5 days of real soreness). I hope it improves for you soon.

Thanks for the input. I’ll be ringing the clinic in the morning to see if there is anything they can do. I would like to avoid another belly draining if possible.

I had 23 eggs and I was pretty miserable. I hate to disagree with pp but drink sports drinks and NOT water, as well as a high protein diet. I was uncomfortable for over a week, but then felt MUCH better. I would call the doc tomorrow if you are worried. xoxox

I have been doing 50/50 sports drinks and water and adding extra salt to my meals. I can pee now without wanting to cry so I guess there is some improvement. I’m still going to call tomorrow, though. It would be lovely if they had a pain med I could take that would not make me itch so I could get a good sleep at night. Thanks for the input!

Yeah they actually didn’t give me anything fun at ER. 😦 I just took a bunch of tylenol every few hours. But it did SUCK. I’m sorry 😦 Chocolate might help 🙂

I was not huge harvester but always felt like a macy balloon after a harvest. I alo felt like my lungs were working really hard and damp- if that makes any sense. I would recommend emergen-c packs in water. Stop taking the pain meds, if you can, because they will just constipate you more and consequently make any abdominal pain feel even worse. I found 4 ibuprofen worked better than the pain meds – but you can not take ibuprofen after the “put back”. If you have a vita-mix or a juicer go on a 24 hour juice fast with protein shakes until everything starts to work itself out. Try to move around a bit — walking etc. but nothing too strenuous. It is really uncomfortable what you have been through and the fertility clinics like to really down play it but it sucks.

Oh my, I hope you are feeling better. Making 27 eggs takes a lot out of a person.

I had 37 eggs last time and 21 this time. Last time I was in PAIN. My stomach hurt from the outside in. If my husband brushed me I would flip out because it hurt so badly. This time I was quite uncomfortable and bloated and puking so I was really worried, but I wasn’t in the same pain. They gave me some nausea meds and that made a huge difference. Today (7 days post er) is the first day I can do up my pants but I started to feel a bit better each day starting 3 days after er. Are you on dostinex or cabergoline (to help prevent ohss) because that is the one that really kicked my ass. But the nausea meds were a god send, and once I could keep stuff down it all started to get better.

Ps – last time I was hospitalized for severe ohss and this time I thought maybe I had mild, but now looking back I think it was actually just the result of a fair sized egg harvest.

I ended up having a horrible time post ret. and called my Dr. pretty late one night. They thought I might have had a PE because I had so much pain, pressure and difficulty breathing. The best I can say is this shall pass.. but if you get concerned at all don’t hesitate to go get checked out!

I don’t know if this is the same but when I donated eggs (with 57 follicles total, not sure how many eggs) it took me a good week to feel almost normal again. I had a lot of pain in my shoulders and it hurt to laugh.

Hope you’re feeling better! Yeah for that awesome egg report!

Oh man, this sounds awful! I hope you feel better soon!

It really does not sound good – I didn’t experience any of what you describe since I only had 8 eggs. I so hope you feel better!!! Look after yourself.
