March Photo Challenge: Day 6

Prompt: Challenge

About this photo: Do you know how hard it is to get a good photo of four cats all peacefully hanging out in one place at one time? Impossible.

Pictured from left is Euclid, Newton and Fermi. My cat, Yum Yum, is not pictured. Why? Because she is the definition of challenging. We like to joke about what kind of human children our cats would be if they were to trade places with grade schoolers.

Euclid would be the athletic mean girl on the playground. You remember that one, she was intense, she was fast, and all she wanted was to be friends but she kept giving others bloody noses during soccer.

Newton would be the dumb girl no one understands. We call her Bubbles around the house, especially when she digs for nothing on the wood floor.

Fermi would be the token fat kid. She would hang behind during recess and chew on a big ole’ leg of fried chicken. When questioned about her robust physique, she would strut her big stuff and insist that big is beautiful, even if it means you can’t jump on the counters.

And then there is Yum Yum. You know Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka? Yeah, sadly, that’s my cat.

Here is what happened when I tried to add Yum Yum to the photo. See that orange tail? That is Newton, cowering and confused while my big monster lashes out.
Contrary to what this photo might look like, no cats were harmed during this shoot. No matter how challenging these felines are, they are our family and, honestly, I would not trade them for a million bucks or a fur-free home.
Also, there will be a kinder, more flattering post on Yum Yum later this month, as she really is a joy… just a challenging joy 🙂
Ladies, forgive me, but it has been a super long, tough day for me. I promise to add the few new March Photo Challenge participants in the morning. Right now, though, I want nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch with Mr. Husband and our pack of cats. I look forward to catching up on blogs tomorrow and seeing what glorious  and creative photos you have posted!

Umm, just having four cats would be challenging enough without even trying to photograph them! Have a nice, relaxing evening. I agree with PP, this challenge has been fun!!

I also need to say that I find it funny that your cat Euclid has the same name as the street address of my employer. 🙂

Your kitties look sweet…at least when eating! I loved your descriptions. I also love the old Willy Wonka way better than the Johnny Depp version, even though that one definitely also had its own merits. I keep trying to convince hubs to watch the old one, but we “never seem to get around to it…” you know? Photographing any pet is challenging! Kudos for getting 3 out of 4! We tried to do 5 dogs in one shot once (our two plus my in-laws 3) and it didn’t go so well.

Ah…now I have the old Willy Wonka songs in my head….”I want it NOW!” LOL!

Aw, I love your kitties. That is a great picture! 🙂 I’m surprised you were even able to get 3 of them up there at once! I love thinking of the cats as kids on a playground… Lilly would be the pretty, popular girl who likes having her picture taken, always looks meticulously put together at all times, and is used to getting her way. Lucy would be covered in mud and have rips in the knees of her pants. She’d also probably eat worms and slugs on dares and would shoot spitballs at the back of Lilly’s head.

oh my, so true.. took me the longest time and a lot of clicks to finally get beautiful (not blurred) photos of my lil kitty.. she just couldn’t stay still, even playing with the camera i’m holding.. nice post..

    • March 7, 2012

The only way I can keep them even the slightest bit still is to feed them, and even then there is a lot of wiggling from all the scarfing action 🙂 Your sweet kitty is beautiful, by the way!

      • March 7, 2012

thank you, and yes she’s so adorable and sweet.

  7. March 7, 2012

This is great! I loved how you compared your cats to people in real life… hilarious!

I’ve already fallen off the wagon on the photo challenge but I’m still hoping to pick it up soon! Love seeing everyone’s beautiful pictures!

Girl, there are no hard-and-fast rules with this challenge! Post when you feel moved to post. Photograph when your camera speaks to you. 🙂

I have massive Kitty envy. I am working on DH but it is slow work. I love Veruca, she was always my favorite. Brilliant film, great song.

If you ask really nicely, I might be swayed to send you one of ours 🙂

I absolutely love this post! Your kitties are beautiful and I love how you thought of them as human children! If my Purcey were a kid he would probably be the tall, clumsy, awkward kid (always running into things and falling off the couch) who is shy and quiet at school around people, but as soon as you get him home he is super crazy and hyper!
