Three Times The Fun

Remember when I got my FET meds and they included a gigantic amount of Endometrin? I assumed these 90 doses were to last me 90 days and that my doctor was being super optimistic about the upcoming transfer.

No dice.

I’m to shoot one of these white pills up my va-jay-jay three times a day. That’s right, ladies. Progesterone suppositories three times a day. Please excuse me while I buy stock in panty liners.

Also someone needs to send a memo to Mr. Husband that there will be no horizontal polka until this cycle either fails or I am 12 weeks pregnant. No one needs to be mucking around up there when that much progesterone in the house.

Oh yeah, endometrin is disgusting. I had to use it 2x/day and that was more than enough! It was so gross that when given a choice to stop endometrin or PIO (required a shot in the butt every night), it was no contest – stop the suppositories!! Perhaps TMI, but so you are prepared: discharge is chalky white and frequently smelly. Totally normal. Panty liners a necessity. Good luck!!!

Ugh oh man I HATE the suppositories. I am still taking them, have been taking them since January! They smell, the discharge is gross, etc. And yes, no sexy time until we’re done with them (another week and a bit). Our doctor said it was okay but it is gross to me, because of the discharge and the smell I just really don’t feel up for that. And I’m only taking one per day! My only advice for them is to change the pantyliner more often than you think, because – at least for me – I am used to blood in a pantyliner as my gauge for when to change, and since the discharge is white it’s hard to tell if you need a new one. And if you are successful this cycle and you have to keep taking them for a long time, let’s just say the crotch-ular region gets uncomfortable if you haven’t been diligent.

Yeah I had to do those three times a day as well. Loads of panty liners is highly recommended!! 🙂

Eew. You can do it though! Go Belle!
(I forgot a panty-liner one day while using Crinone last cycle. Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.)

    • April 12, 2012

      Crinone is the Nast!!!

      • April 13, 2012

It is the pits! I would take endometrin over Crinone any day. I especially hate the squish sound it makes when “applied.”

I HATE progesterone. All types. So I can only imagine the frustration of dealing with it 3x a day. Blah!!!. So I’m holding out on the hope that the embryo will stick and grow because of how much of a hassle this will be.

I don’t envy you! I hated both types of progesterone suppositories I had to use, 3 times a day also. Ugh! Definitely get some comfy panty liners (and maybe some longer ones for night, as I found that I leaked in the back at night). And I very much agree with no horizontal action. Hubby and I did it once and it just hurt too much to try again. Poor guy.

Ugh, with my FETs I needed way more suppositories too – creams. 2 x 1gm prog cream a day then 2 gms of E2 cream at night, it was disgusting……
I did however ask my nurse how long the creams took to take effect (have all the drug effect soak in) and she said it only took 10 minutes, so after that keeping that crap inside was pointless. So my lucky hubby did see some action after I realized that, and on the odd occasion if it was really pissing me off I dug that crap out after an hour or so. (sorry if TMI!)

This may be a naive question… and it’s definitely a gross one, but can’t a bit of that nastiness be avoided by using the back door? I thought I read on another blog that you can put progesterone suppositories in either place and that the rear entry results in less discharge and does not preclude sex. Someone says it’s so… please.

You know, if one has “normal” BM’s, that really could be brilliant…

    • April 12, 2012

I am not yet taking progesterone, but am curious to hear the answer to this!

    • April 13, 2012

I never thought I’d say this: but boy do I hope it is just as effective when used “in the back door!” I’ll have to ask my doctor about it when I see him on Tuesday!

      • April 13, 2012

Please let us know what he says… I’ve got a box full of those nasty suckers upstairs, and I cringe in dreaded anticipation every time I pass by them.
BTW, here’s the link to Mommy in Waiting’s post where I read that “rumor” about inserting in the bum instead of the “love chute,” as she puts it (See #3 under “The Ugly”):

I hear you, sister. I was doing 2 per day. My levels were okay, but not great. I could only imagine that’s because the progesterone was in my panties and not in my lady bits. I thought it was going to be the end of the world when I switched to a shot in the bum 1x per day, but it really was pretty magical in comparison. Good luck!

    • April 13, 2012

Lol! I always worry about all the progesterone in my panties, too! I also worry about possibly shooting the suppository out if I poo too soon after putting it in… Mr. Husband and I agreed that we’ll move to the bum shots next round, if we need a next round, as these suppositories are just terrible!

  11. April 13, 2012

Oh my word!! Had good laugh though, good luck.

  12. April 16, 2012

EEW! My RE was going to change me to that for my 3rd IUI. I asked why and they had no reason and told me I could stick with the oral progesterone. I am so glad I didn’t have to change. I can’t beleive you have to use it 3 times a day! You can do it!
