This just in…

Belle

Inside Belle’s head: Cheers! You are still kind of pregnant… sort of… I don’t know… let’s have a beer instead.

Two weeks post D&C and my HCG levels are at 68.

Stop this ride, I want off. How long did it take your levels to drop to zero post D&C?

Also, several of my blood tests have come back and indicate that this was not autoimmune related. Whew. Now we wait on the karyotype… So much waiting and not a whole lot of doing.

* Update: Errrr, that hairy man hand in the photo is not mine. The PCOS is not that out of control… yet 🙂

Ugh, that is gross. I can only imagine you are done. I am sorry I have no D&C experience, just a pathetic chemical pregnancy with a first beta of 10 and second negative….I hope it is over for you soon – and that the karyotype brings some answers.

I think it took me 4-5 weeks to get down to zero. 😦 My highest beta was 1700. Sorry you’re going through this. Keep drinking beers for sure.

      ugh. 4-5 weeks? total bummer.

My beta at nine days post D&C was 386. I was a bit further along, so it isn’t the best benchmark. I ovulated 23 days after the D&C, but it was weird and wonky with a short luteal phase. The typical signs were also absent ie sore breasts, breakouts, etc. I hope it drops quickly from there and it can start the next chapter.

Hi there. I have been following your blog for a few weeks now. I am so sorry that you have had to go through all this. 😦 I totally understand your heartache and pain. I have had 3 early losses in the last year and 2 D&Cs. I was measuring 8.5 weeks when I had my first. It took me 46 days to get my period. I wasn’t following my hcg so I don’t know how long it actually took to go back to 0. For my 2nd, I was measuring 6 weeks. They didn’t follow my hcg for that either, but it took about 2.5 weeks to get a negative pregnancy test after the surgery. I got my period 38 days after the D&C. Again I am so sorry that you lost your baby. I wish you a speedy recovery from everything. Hugs.

Hey D, welcome to the Scrambled Mess 🙂 I’m sorry for your losses and that you have had to go through this, too. It is not a fun thing. 4 to 6 weeks seems to be what I am reading online. I’m totally bummed but relieved the number is at least moving in the right direction!

Yes, let’s have a beer instead. Definitely. I don’t have any words of wisdom about when your levels will drop to 0, but I do want to say that I am really, really glad that this was not a result of autoimmune problems. It doesn’t make the experience less awful, but it is a glimmer of hope that next time things will be different. And by different I mean easy, magical, care-free and successful. In the meantime, let’s say yes to drinking!

It took around 4 weeks for my second loss, where we discovered the lost heartbeat a day after it happened( nearly 9 weeks along), and had the D&C done 3 days after. I read somewhere that the beta falls at the same rate it doubles, ie every 48 hours, it should half. How long it takes to go away completely depends on how far along you are.

Blood tests for this purpose are just too awful- what I did was I peed on sticks (the super cheap ones) and waited till the line faded to nothing. I took around 2 days after my 2nd line completely disappeared as CD1, and sure enough, I ovulated around 20 days after this, and got my period around 15 days after the next O.

Good thing the autoimmune panel came back negative, a chromosomal abnormality is the best possible verdict in this shitty situations 😦

I hope it is chromosomal, too. Although from what I’m learning in Coming to Term (which you recommended and is awesome, thank you!) up to 50% of miscarriages they never find a reason. If this is the case I’ll just have to channel my control freakiness elsewhere, I guess 🙂

Lots of folks have weighed in already, but it took me 7 weeks to have a period after my D&C and I had 17 weeks of hcg in me. I didn’t follow the hcg. Hugs to you. Enjoy the bevy.

Lord, 7 weeks is a LONG time! I think they won’t make me wait that long since I don’t have periods on my own. At least I hope they won’t!

Beer sounds like a great idea!

Have two 🙂 I don’t know anything about D & C but I really hope things sort it self out fast, always thinking of you xxx

Hi, Belle. I never had a D&C, but my levels dropped to zero 4-5 weeks after I lost my baby. I am so sorry you have to go through this and that it can be such a slow, long process. Thinking of you.
