Belly Aches

09/10/2012

Belle

Yum Yum waits to go into the sunroom on Saturday morning.

Is it just me or is this TWW crawling by? Maybe it’s because I spent the bulk of my weekend either in bed or on the couch feeling miserable.

Thanks for all the input yesterday. Now that I feel a little more human I realize that a 99.3 degree temperature really is not that ridiculous. I blame this overreaction 100% on the progesterone.

Let’s take a few minutes to mull over what the hell is wrong with me. This is gonna include way TMI so if poo and gas is not your cup of tea please skip down to the POAS Pledge update.

First, numerous things in my body have changed in the past week or so:

  • Started a new, pregnancy-safe, allergy medication (Singulair)
  • Started progesterone in sesame oil shots (have done 10 shots)
  • Had an embryo transfer
  • Drinking soy milk for the first time in about 6 to 8 weeks (Whole Paycheck , i.e. Whole Foods, was out of my Flax milk)

For the past 4 days I have been experiencing mounting indigestion. Thursday was uncomfortable. Friday was a little worse. Saturday was full-on “Where the hell are the TUMS” and Sunday I thought I might die. Any time I eat anything my body feels like it needs to let out the world’s biggest burp or fart but it just won’t come. It HURTS. I have this full and nauseous feeling all day. Sometimes my tummy starts burning and then it calms down on its own. I can’t stand the thought of onions, vinegar, mustard or garlic which is weird because I usually love those things.

Incase this was not enough, Friday night I decided that putting greasy super spicy Thai food in my belly was a good idea. Saturday we had left over greasy spicy Thai. By Sunday, yesterday, my back ached, my head hurt, my entire GI tract was upset and I had a low fever. (cue panicked blog post).

Today I’m feeling a little better (no more body aches or fever) but the upset stomach/need to pass gas feeling is still very present. At 5 a.m. I woke up with a start and then (forgive me for waaaay TMI) proceeded to poop my brains out.

I also have AF like cramps today which is making me seriously bummed.

So I ask you all: What the hell is wrong with me??? Could this be a POI side effect? I’m taking 2ml each evening which does not seem like that much. It seems way too early to be having pregnancy-related indigestion. Could this be due to Singulair? Seems a pretty violent reaction to such a small allergy pill.

Ugh. So here I am at work, armed with a bottle of air freshener, just incase I get lucky and all this pent-up gas escapes, and a fresh supply of period paraphernalia stashed in the office bathroom as the cramps are really kicking up since arriving an hour ago.

We have a few POAS pledges who are set to pee today. Send some good vibes to Bethany (who is not  a blogger herself, but is a blog reader) and Mo @ Mommy OdysseyWe Are Learning To Make Fire worries that her temps are not looking positive. Drop by her blog and offer her a little love – I think she could use some support.

We have one new pledge, too. Elizabeth @ Bebe Suisse promises to not POAS until September 19.

TESTING TODAY! Bethany promises not to POAS until September 10.

Jenny @ About Sprout is a little pee stick phobic but promises not to POAS until September 11.

Amanda @ Reading Each Page promises not to POAS until September 18.

TESTING TODAY! Mo @ Mommy Odyssey promises not to POAS until September 10.

IVFMale’s wife is trying to hold out until her blood test (HUGE props to her for this!)

Kate promises not to POAS until September 18.

Lindzlamp @ Chronicles of the Conceptually Challenged promises not to POAS until September 17.

Wearelreaningtomakefire @ We Are Learning To Make Fire test day was Sunday, Sept. 9.

Vanessa promises not to POAS until September 16.

Been thinking about you this weekend. I’m sorry you have all this pent up gas, but I will say…(you can delete my comment if you don’t want to hear it) my indigestion was HORRIBLE and it turned out to be the first sign I was pregnant, like seriously 5 to 7 dpo. And the AF cramps too.

That makes me want to POAS even more 🙂 Wednesday morning seems sooooo far away now!

I am SO rooting for you!! I’m a horrible blog stalker during times like these. I have the best will power with dying but I am powerless when confronted by something to pee on.

9/12 is going to be a good day. For you and me both. Fingers crossed!!

        • September 11, 2012

          I sure hope so!

Damn it! Sorry to hear you’re not feeling great. I am clueless about whether or not these may be pregnancy symptoms (please be yes please be yes) but I have also experienced serious stomach upset during my luteal phase which is attributed to increased circulating progesterone. 99.3 is a very low grade fever, so I wouldn’t worry about that.

I was thinking the same things as tchrgrl05. At any rate, 2 of the combinations you mentioned are enough to throw your body our of wack. Hopefully you’re feeling better today.

Thanks for the shout out hon. I did indeed pee today and it was a single stark line – though I know it’s still soon – my pee pledge was only for a one week wait – I know my limits! 😛

    Hope you feel better soon.

You’ve almost made it to test day! And, those cramps you are feeling could be your uterus grabbing and holding onto that little embaby! My fingers are crossed for you!

I feel like I am living vicariously through your blog…I can’t wait until you test! I am excited and anxious to hear the results!

Good luck to today’s POASers! The wife and I discussed it and we are modifying our pledge to Sunday the 16th, the day before our beta.

I think your symptoms are from the PIO. All the pains you describe are exactly the complaints I hear from my wife.

  9. September 10, 2012

The evil part of PIO–aside from the nightly big long needles in the a$$–is that the progesterone mimics all the symptoms of early pregnancy. So it can make you tired, crampy, and can cause GI upset (constipation for some, the reverse for others; heartburn/indigestion).

Being on PIO therefore makes it impossible to realistically evaluate any early symptoms as possible signs of pregnancy. Just another lovely part of fertility treatment. . . .

Good luck with holding out on POASing! I know it’s tough.

I’m going to hold out hope that these are early pregnancy symptoms – keep em coming!!!

Wow, you’re on twice as much PIO as I am! I imagine that’s got to be screwing things up at least a little bit. Maybe the soy milk isn’t agreeing with you on top of it? If your GI tract is screwed up in general from the meds and stuff, I’d take it easy for a while on greasy or spicy foods. Those will just make things worse (as you already learned the hard way). That would explain why things like vinegar, onions and garlic don’t sound appealing – those are all things that irritate sensitive stomachs and give you gas! I’ve had a sensitive system most of my life, and pregnancy hasn’t helped things at all – I’ve learned/been learning the hard way what to eat and what to avoid. As for the cramps – it seems to me that most women who have gone through IVF/FET and get a BFP have those. I know I did – I seriously thought AF was going to arrive any minute – but she didn’t! Hoping this is a great sign for you!

Thank you for the shout-out! AF arrived today so I’m out, no peeing for me (boo!). Fingers and toes crossed for you!
