12 Week NT Scan & Dreadful Maternity Pants

* Creepy ultrasound photos and ridiculous pants photos are after the jump.

A photo taken of the Professor and I for his parents required (and embarrassing) Christmas letter. I am sporting "regular pants" from Ann Taylor that are NOT AT ALL COMFY anymore and a rocking maternity sweater from Gap that I grabbed on super clearance. The Professor is in a Banana Republic Polo and slacks that were on deep clearance. This is about as normal a photo as we take. :)

Today was our 12 week NT scan. I am feeling more pregnant lately which delights me. It is uncomfortable to lay on my belly now and I feel some pulling and slight discomfort occasionally in my belly from crowding. The peeing is also out of control. It actually HURTS when I wait too long to go and then when I sit down just this tiny little bit comes out and I’m all like “What the hell, bladder?” It gives me a slight appreciation for the discomfort little Yum Yum has been dealing with for the past few weeks/months!

The NT Scan went really well. The technician was great and told me what she saw as she went. Chicken has a rather large nasal bone, meaning he is ABSOLUTELY ours (we have “pronounced beaks”) and the fluid behind his neck was measuring way less then one which is excellent. We opted to do the regular blood testing to determine our risk factors. Those results should come back in about a week.

We also saw tiny little feet with tiny little toes all ready to be the hiking, running, biking buddy I have been dreaming of for so long. I had to choke back tears when I saw the feet. I love them so much!

In other news, my new maternity pants came in and they are DREADFUL! Y’all, someone needs to invent a line of “training maternity” pants. You know, some pants for when you are not big enough for these ridiculous things but just big enough to be outgrowing your bottoms. They should not have buttons but NOT have some retarded panel that nearly covers your boobs.

I ordered these pants from Loft and they were not cheap. They were also advertised as having a “demi panel.” Either this was a mistype or their idea of demi is just terrifying. I would hate to see their “full” panel pants! I might be able to use the full panel as a hood, too. BONUS!

So without further ado, creepy ultrasound photos and ugly pants pictures after the jump!

Baby Chicken!

Please, please let the Chicken be blessed with someone else nose! :)

And now some pants photos. Because we are dying to see a scrawny pregnant lady try on maternity pants, right?

Sorry for the terrible photo editing here. I'm in a rush and it was hard to see the pants against our big narsty wood burning stove.

Sorry for the terrible photo editing. It was hard to see the pants against our big nasty wood burning stove so I had to convert to B&W and mess with the contrast/brightness a lot.

This might not bode well for my fashion options for the coming 6 months.

    Lovin’ the chicken lump!

LOVE the feet shot. Too adorable for words. 🙂

I’m sorry to agree with you but, yes, those pants are awful. lol I don’t know if you have Thyme Maternity in the US, but I’ve had good luck (so far) with their maternity jeans and leggings. Not cheap, but the comfort and style are well worth it to me.

love, love, love it!!! glad the scan turned out great. looks like you are going to have a really low composite risk score. that is excellent.

hate, hate, hate the pants though. i have found that i can wear tal.bots pants because they are made for 50 year old women who do not exercise (ie have F.U.P.A.’s as my sis would call it). so i’m wearing those instead of hopping directly to maternity pants. but, they are killer expensive. so i only have 2 pairs. also, there’s always low rise like from express and the hair-tie trick or belly band trick (or rubber band trick if youre already at the office and forget hair ties and belly bands).

happy pantsing! glad your nt scan went great!!!!!! :)))))

Those pants are both hilarious and horrible! Boden does awesome maternity clothes and I found a bunch in their online clearance last year

Congrats on a great NT scan! Yeah – those pants do not fit! However, you look great! I usually love LOFT too, but that maternity panel is huge! That in-between stage is so awkward. You may find yourself having to buy clothes at different stages as your belly grows. Bummer, I know. I actually haven’t bought any maternity clothes from LOFT yet. So far everything I’ve gotten is from Target, JCPenney, Old Navy (most comfy maternity jeans I’ve gotten) and Motherhood. There are really cute sweaters at Target right now, and last I saw they were on sale. Old Navy seems to be one of the best places to get jeans – I’ve had them recommended by many people and they’re inexpensive – plus I’ve found that they’re great to shop online with – free exchanges – can change size and/or color! It’s been hard to find maternity clothes that fit my usual style…but, I figure it’s only for a short time, right? I’ve done quite a few alterations to my maternity pants as well – and had to undo them as I’ve grown! lol Good luck with your shopping!

Such SWEET baby feet!!! Love it so much, and y’know you are still tiny and gorgeous……….and you will continue to be just that as this pregnancy goes on, just with a small bump/lump there for Chicken.

  7. December 19, 2012

Yep, maternity pants SUCK. I have yet to find a pair I like. I hate the full panel as well. I am very short so it goes all the way under my boobs. Oh well…. just one sacrifice to make for baby… fashion.

  8. December 19, 2012

Glad things are going well! I got some J Brand maternity jeans with no panel…instead of front pockets there is stretchy fabric so your belly can grow. They are AWESOME! Way better than any type of panel in my opinion. If only I could find work pants like this!

  9. December 19, 2012

I’m so excited for you! Sorry I was MIA for a while. I missed you so much!

  10. December 19, 2012

Congrats on a great scan, the pictures are amazing!!
Try Old Navy’s “real waist essential trousers” – they are adjustable and quite comfortable. I wore them for more than half my pregnancy, when I switched to the panel type. Worth the $25 price 🙂

Yeah, those pants aren’t great. I have a pair of Target jeans that have been working out well – they are DEFINITELY too big, but I can no longer button my regular jeans so they’ll have to do!

Chicken is beautiful. I love love love the feet! This just makes me want to go back to the doc TODAY and demand more pictures! Isn’t it wonderful to see how they’re growing??? SO happy for you to have made it to week 12! Huge!

  12. December 19, 2012

AHAHAHAHA… those pants are atrocious! Honestly, if you were having triplets, maybe I’d understand… but seeing as there have been so many advances in the stretchy material industry, why are they still relying on drawstring/cinchy waistband things? Well, maybe they’ll be good for a Halloween costume one day. Happy to hear Chicken’s looking good!

  13. December 19, 2012

Oh my goodness! Those feet! I just want to snuggle them! Your little chicken is already too adorable.

I have a friend who was a big fan of dresses and maternity leggings. She said that they were outrageously comfortable and they didn’t look any different from regular leggings when she wore them under her dresses. It might be worth a try.

I love all these photos and the fact that you share them with us! The feet are too cute! If we ever get around to making a baby, I hope it doesn’t come out feet-first, as me and the hubs both really have some hooves! 🙂

Yeay for a great NT scan! and ditto ja,ja those pants do not suit you well. I ended up buying at Maternity Hood (if I remember the name correctly) a packet with Belly Belts which are wonderful b/c you can still use your regular jeans/pants but adjust the button according to your expanding belly. Of course at this point there are only like 3 jeans that actually fit through my butt, but this solution has worked pretty well so far.
    Congrats again!

Congrats, Belle, on a great NT scan today. Maternity pants sincerely suck. I went to Motherhood Maternity (literally the only walk-in maternity store in my town) and oh wow, the horror of those pants! At this point, I’m 12w4d and have one pair of maternity pants I just wear over and over, even when they are borderline stinky. They do have full panel but it is nice and supportive – not at ALL baggy/bumpy looking like the one in your pics. My jeans are the Joe’s Jeans Socialite cut from Pea in the Pod, which I grabbed on sale 40% off over Black Friday weekend. They are pretty spendy, I must admit, but I *love* them and think I will be wearing them a lot — or at least until I reach twin pregnancy mumu phase in the Spring 😉 Now I’m in the market for some good leggings … do let us know if you figure out where a nice, thick pair might be had …

  17. December 19, 2012

In the early days, I used the ‘belly band’ which expands ordinary pants, and later the ‘bando’ ( omg I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bando) by a fertile mind. If you like I can post you my belly band? There’s little panels with buttons and button holes and also slide clips in three sizes in the kit. Got me through MONTHS.

Love the scan, love the cheesy tree photie, love that you’re starting to enjoy it!

  18. December 19, 2012

I think you all look awesome!!!

  19. December 19, 2012

I love that photo of the two (four) of you! Super fun!

Those pants are too big. They shouldn’t look like that, even this early and being maternity pants. Get a smaller size, will you? 😉

Try Gap pants. I love them! And honestly, Motherhood maternity had great CHEAP work pants that I lived in. They did not look dreadful at all 😉 Their pants were all I bought there – their tops were DREADFUL. HA!

  20. December 19, 2012

That is not a demi-panel. I’m not expert on maternity pants, but I have had many, many pregnant friends and family members. That is a full panel. Surely, right?

  21. December 19, 2012

Oh, Belle. You put such a smile on my face 🙂 Even those those pants are a little wonky I can tell see the happiness emanating from you and the Professor in these photos. Love it!

I love it…..I love the u/s photos. Super cute chicken you have there. My fave maternity pants were actually quite inexpensive from Motherhood Maternity. They fit will in the butt/thigh but have this awesom (secret fit panel) that you can roll down for the early days…or pull up over you for the big bump days. Most comfy maternity pants EVER. here is a link for info:

Avoid the low rise, fat elastic waist at all costs….it just ends up sitting on your bladder and torturing you all day.

But…mostly…I am just sooooo very excited that the NT scan looks good and the chicken is growing nicely. I am really looking forward to following your journey!

  24. December 19, 2012

Love the pics of little chicken so awesome. I was also obsessed with seeing my little ones feet during her ultrasounds they are just too cute!! I ha the best fit with Gap and Old Navy because they both have short panels. They went up about three inches. I actually liked the short panels even when I was super prgenant because the full panels would be too tight. Oh the joys of pregnancy clothes

Feeeeeeet! I can’t wait to read of your smooching those tootsies during diaper changes! Love it SO MUCH.

Pants? Sigh. I’m sorry the not-cheap ones are disappointing – but I bet you’ll love them in a few months! I think I got all of my jeans (don’t have to dress up for work often) at either Target or Macy’s, in their Motherhood section. None of them are fabulous, but there were a few styles that worked in this in-between period, and though they never go on sale it seems, they aren’t terribly expensive. I would think that the same brands would have the same panel styles (I did have one pair with no panel – just elastic on the sides, so they even had a button and zipper!) in pants instead of jeans. I read too late for my purchasing purposes that the key is light-weighted-ness in the fabric, since eventually you’ll have no real way to keep them held up, so the heavy ones will drive you nuts slipping down and look awful, saggy-butt. Either way, just enjoy the silliness of them all for now! Comfort is totally key from here on out.

You are so ON YOUR WAY!!

Your Chicken is just perfect. I was wondering if you have decided if you will find out the sex of the baby prior? I am so happy for you and the Professor. I love your story.

  27. December 19, 2012

Hah! Fold the panel in half….or even more so! I pull mine down to my hips so it looks like a tank top peeking under my tops because I HATE for it to be pulled up under my boobies! Mine always roll down and create a speed bump thing in the middle of my stomach…gap has some that I like MUCH better, not sure what the panel is actually called on them, but it’s made of cotton instead of spandex, and it’s only 2-3 inches wide. Loft is so pricey with their maternity stuff- I would exchange them if you can! I went to this store today and was so impressed with the stuff they had, AND their sale prices!! I bought an adorable cotton dress that is sort of a beige color! I just now realized they have a website! —-okay after looking at their site prices, those aren’t the same prices I saw in the store!!! The dress I bough was 50$ not on sale and I don’t even see it on here… 😦 Sorry!

  28. December 20, 2012

Hahaha those pants are soooo big! I think I just wore yoga pants or skirts but I was pregnant in spring and summer. I did have some gap maternity jeans but they were somehow too big in the hips while at the same time too small in the thigh, which has always seemed bizarre to me, so they were never as comfortable as I wanted them to be.

    Yay Chicken feet! So cute!!!!

  29. December 20, 2012

You look fantastic! While those pants are too big now….just wait a few more weeks/months and you will definitely be filling them out! 🙂

  30. December 20, 2012

Ok, those pants are awful. OMG. RETURN THEM. Go to GAP. GAP HAS really good maternity pants. Some that have more like an elastic waist that sits below your belly, and others that are full panel but not so… weird and bunchy like that… eww. No wonder you hate them. ALSO, PLEASE SPLURGE AND GET SOME NOPPIES!!! OMG I live in them. LIVE IN THEM. Usually found in boutique maternity store, or perhaps online. They are like wearing yoga pants. The black ones, are … amazing. Highly highly recommend. You will not regret.
Go with CHEAP maternity shirts, and worthwhile maternity pants, since you only need like 4 pair. Grey, black, khaki, and jeans. For some reason I can’t find any websites that are USA websites but stores have them. I PROMISE! Find a maternity store that has lots of brands.

    • December 20, 2012

also, you look great. Congratulations on chicken, it’s absolutely amazing! And I hope your flare is not a flare, and just a headache =\

  31. December 21, 2012

I think you said in your last post that those were considered a demi panel? Those are totally a full panel! When I first got my full panel pants I could totally put them over my boobs, but I knew I would need all that elastic soon. I love mine from motherhood maternity, but I know our sizes are completely different so I can’t tell you how the smaller sizes are.
I love all the pics!!! Roo and Squirt were excited to see your little Chicken. They keep pushing out toward the computer. Such adorable little feet!
