I first heard about Duncan MacDougall’s research into the weight of the human soul on Radio Lab (one of my all time favorite radio shows that EVERYONE who reads me should be listening too!). MacDougall’s bizarre research concluded that the human soul weighs 21 grams by weighing people as they died. His research was disjointed, at best, and is not taken seriously today. Still, though, the number has lingered in my brain.
This morning, after a second dose of Miralax the night before, I finally pooped. I rushed into the bathroom around 5:30 a.m. and quickly jumped on the scale to note my weight. Then I did my business, weighed again and was shocked to realize that I had pooped out two entire pounds. TWO POUNDS.
That is 907.185 grams or the equivalent of 43.2 souls. I believe I have successfully rid myself of all my inner demons and perhaps also pooed out my soul.
