An Exercise in Futility

How do you parents of toddlers ever vacuum? I have spent the better part of the last two hours picking things up so the Roomba can run while we are out doing errands. For every three things I pick up Sabine seems to drag another four out. It seems so futile. If I weren’t so OCD I would give up and and succumb to life with crumb and cat fur covered floors!

Only on weekends during nap time! That’s the only time I can fit a major vacuum session in…otherwise…it’s a swiffer to the kitchen floor, but yes, I’m constantly picking up cheerios or puffs everywhere. And ps, forgot to comment on your last post–congrats on the new car 🙂 loved the pigeon story.

We have never figured out a good way due to Loki’s noise sensitivity. Our lives are prety much like this:

But my friend uses a little hand vac so that her son can “help”, and that way she doesn’t have to pick up everything first. She just spot cleans here and there. Seems to work pretty darn well.

Ah yes. And to make it way worse, Tru is terrified of the vacuum so he has to be in another room and even then he still cries when he hears it sometimes. I have no idea why he is scared of it. He didn’t used to be.

Try hiding a few toys that will hold her attention for a few days, pull them out for vacuum time away from the area you want to vacuum and see if that distracts her long enough? They can be her special vacuum time only toys? We use the hidden toy trick to distract natalie from all of the exciting new toys that she can’t have during paiges therapy time. When I vacuum, I throw everything on the floor on surfaces that are harder to reach as quickly as possible in one giant mess. Forget about putting things away, the goal is to vacuum the 87 cheerios off of the floor. You can always put stuff away after vacuuming.
